Laughter Club

mission

The sharing of laughter has profoundly positive effects on our bodies and minds, comes naturally to us all and is a universal expression of emotions that need no translation. At Laughter Club, based in Nottingham, we are committed to bringing more laughter into people’s lives by leading laughter therapy workshops in the workplace, the community, and social settings. Workshops include elements of Laughter Yoga and are carefully crafted to suit the setting to maximise joy, happiness, and good health.

Our key message is:

Laughter for health. Laughter as exercise. Laughter for wellbeing. Laughter for social connection. Laughter to relieve stress. Laughter to boost performance. Laughter for fun. Laughter for happiness.

The more we laugh the more zest for life we have.

About

Laughter therapy workshops with Sarah (Certified Laughter Yoga Leader, Counsellor, Clinical Supervisor and Laughter Therapist) have been inspired by the Laughter Yoga movement where we laugh for no reason without the need for comedy or jokes. Laughter Yoga is a unique concept that sprung from the combined minds of a medical doctor and yoga teacher Dr Madan Kataria and Madhuri Kataria in 1995. Deep breathing practises, gentle stretches, laughter exercises, followed by guided relaxation. Today we have hundreds of thousands of people practicing “laughter for health” worldwide in over 100 countries with more than 10,000 laughter clubs practising laughter each day.

Sarah an experienced Counsellor, Psychotherapist and Clinical Supervisor, at Laughter Club, came across Laughter Yoga whilst working as a Clinical Lead in a cancer charity in the East Midlands in 2021. “The hall was packed with people affected by cancer; they were either a cancer patient, carer or family member facing the most serious challenges in their life and yet they laughed and laughed and laughed until their eyes sparkled and their smiles spread from ear to ear. At the end of the Laughter Yoga class no one wanted to leave. In that hour there was no doubt in my mind that they had felt happy and had had fun”.

Sarah combines her knowledge and vast experience of mental health to provide laughter therapy workshops for people in the workplace, community and social settings.

Ultimately, laughter clubs bring more laughter to our professional and personal lives in a pleasurable, playful, simple, and fun way. There is no need for special equipment or clothing.
